iBuyPower revealed their own prototype box for their own upcoming Steam Machine. Keep in mind that various manufacturers will be allowed to make their own devices and iBuyPower is one of them. Their unit will go on sale next year for $499 (USD), the same price as an Xbox One.

Included will be a multicore AMD CPU, AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 500GB hard drive. The unit itself is smaller than an Xbox One but larger than a PS4. The power supply is included inside the case and appears to come in a glossy white with a customizable light bar running across the middle of the unit. Included will be a Steam Controller and the system itself will run the Linux-based Steam OS from Valve. The company claims that the hardware will have no problems running existing Steam Linux games at 1080p and 60fps. As this is merely a prototype and since the release is still in 2014, some details and specs are liable to be changed.

iBuyPower states that it actually has two models, codenamed Gordon and Freeman, in the works. The two consoles are identical, save for the light bar round the middle -- one model's is clear, while the other's is black when not illuminated. And, while the company wouldn't tell us about the boxes' internals, it did confirm that the hardware will run all Steam titles in 1080p resolution at 60fps. Not as much info as we'd like to know, but still, it's good to see hints of what we'll see from Steam Machines when they hit the market -- though we'll likely have to wait until CES to see them in action.
