Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 pushed back to Q1 2015

Several sources in the industry indicate that the pending release of a new graphics card called GeForce GTX 960 will be delayed into Q1 2015. The product was supposed to launch mid-October 2014, though that was based up-on speculation.
The precise reason behind the delay is not yet known, but it was speculated that the product would be based on the GM204, the same chip that is being used in the GeForce GTX 970 and 980 as well. Since these products are intensely popular, it might simple be a stock allocation issue of the GPU and of course, Nvidia can make a few extra bucks selling the same GPU in a higher end SKU.
An interesting side effect of the delay will be that there is a gap in the market, a gap that the competition with the Radeon R9 285 happily seems to fill.
Nvidia will not confirm this rumor, as they do not talk about un-announced products ever.

That seems reasonable with 10 active clusters.

Too much to sale, and not enough minerals

It was hard to get a 980 with aftermarket cooler here in europe, got mine today, has nearly been a month. And once they show up, they are sold. They sold a couple of thousand 970s combined on the 3 most popular shops in germany.

Probably combination of poor yields and being able to make more on higher end cards.

What sucks about this is that even more users may purchase a 970 which means even less stock unless they are on a budget.
Right now you can't even get a 970 or 980 in the States they are sold out every where I checked. Does anyone know if Nvidia has a shortage of 970s or 980s?

Yes they do. they didn't anticipated that much sales, that one of the reason 960 was delayed.

28nm has been around forever.. TSMC is at like 90% and there isn't a silicon shortage or any other reason for production problems.
I think the article got it right, there is no reason for a 960 atm, Nvidia can push users toward higher premium 970/980s.

Anyone have a link or article on how Nvidia managed to lower the power consumption so much on the same 28nm process? Something I would like to read.
