Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 In January 2015

It looks like Nvidia is lifting the release of the pending GeForce GTX 960 over the Christmas season, a little weird as the plan right now seems to be a release in late January 2014. So that thus would be after people have spend their money on Christmas presents.

The time therefor seems a little off, but multiple shipping manifests already have seen the GM206 GPU being shipped around. Now internal industry sources also indicate a GM206 release aka GeForce GTX 960 late January. This means that the product is very likely on display at CES 2015.

Specs wise very little is actually confirmed, but it's indicative that the product will get a GPU similar to the GTX 970, yet with a smaller number of shader processors enabled. If the same GPU is used, then that might be the cause of the delay for the GTX 960, the 970 and 980 are in popular demand and well, Nvidia has better margins with their expensive GPUs being sold, and since stock is low that is the logical step to pursue for the company.

Recently a leaked shipment manifest already indicated 4GB GDDR5 6GHz memory on a 256bit memory bus. Here is the complete entry live in the actual database:

GRAPHIC CARD GTX 960 4GB DDR5,256 BIT,993/6008 HDCP,DUAL DVI,HDMI,DP P PAKC (PCI,PCB POPULATED,VGA CARD,COMP. ACCESS)

So a 993 MHz Core and 6 Gbps memory ?  Interesting as why on earth would a shipping manifest show such specific information ? Well, it is interesting none-the less I guess.  Pricing is expected to sit somewhere at 249 to 289 USD.

Well, time will tell ...
