At the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti event yesterday a number of things have been discussed. Among them it seems that Nvidia has started allowing its AIB partners to reconfigure the GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) and GeForce GTX 1080 with faster memory types.

Basically NVIDIA is allowing partners to order 11 Gbps GDDR5X (this was 10 Gbps) for the GeForce GTX 1080 and then for the GeForce GTX 1060 that would beĀ 9Gbps GDDR5 (up from 8 Gbps). We haven't heard anything regarding this for the GeForce GTX 1070 though.

Obviously it is a alittle uncertain if the board partners will pick up on this at all, faster memory is more expensive and adds a price premium to the product. Then again the enthusiast SKUs with more tweakability could benefit from faster framebuffer partitions and well, all board partners like to rank the charts with their products.
