Right then, time for a proper news post about it. Nvidia hours ago announced the GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080. Both cards are obviously Pascal architecture based and made on a 16nm FinFet design. The rumors have been true including a shader count of 2560 shader processors for the 1080 and pretty wicked clock frequencies whilst sticking to a 180 W TDP only.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 is based on the GP104-gpu which has a staggering 7.2 Billion transistors. The 1080 is fitted with Micron's new gddr5x-memoro, 8GB of it. The base clock frequency is 2500MHz on a 256-bit wide memory bus offering 320GB/s. The card has a base-clock of 1607MHz with a boost clock of  1733MHz, and that's just the reference design. Nvidia claims that overclocks up-to 2GHz are possible. The GTX 1080 has a 180 watt TDP.

The GeForce GTX 1070 also has a GP104-gpu based on Pascal-architecture but is the cheaper model. It'll be fitted with 8GB gddr5-memory, yes regular GDDR5 memory. Nvidia did not yet share information on the number of shader processors and  further specs on the 1070. however it would offer 6.5 tflops of performance where the 1080 will offer 9 tflops of single precision performance.

Benchmarks have not been shown, but the GTX 1080 in for example VR was faster compared to a Titan X and even faster than two GTX 980 cards. You may expect with games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3 that the GTX 1080 will be roughly 70 procent faster compared to is a possibility. a regular GTX 980, based on a slide Nvidia showed. That would make it even faster than a GTX 980 Ti now that I think of it.

The GeForce GTX 1080 is equipped with three displayport connectors 1.2 but they also offer support for DP 1.3- and 1.4 standards. So you could use 4k-monitor with refreshrates up-to 120Hz, even 7680x4320 pixels at 60Hz is possible . The card also has a HDMI 2.0b connector supporting 4K / 60 Hz. The cards can be placed in SLI, Nvidia developed a new SLI HB-bridge (high bandwidth) that offers twice the bandwidth compared to the regular SLI bridges you guys already know.

The GeForce GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5X pricing is set at 599 USD, there will be a founders (special binned and more overclockable) edition as well for 699. The card will be available starting May 27th. The GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB of GDDR5 memory as well will be released in a founders edition. The basis model will cost 379 USD and the founders edition is going to cost 449 USD. The GeForce GTX 1070 will reach the market a bit later at June 10th, that might be due to custom AIB partner designs and releases released and showed off right after Computex.
