The official Google blog notes that starting on January 30 "consumers won't be able to set up new devices using Google Sync" although current Google Sync accounts will continue to work. Google Sync was previously set up so people that used Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync could access Google Mail, Calendar and Contacts. Google said, "With the recent launch of CardDAV, Google now offers similar access via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV, making it possible to build a seamless sync experience using open protocols." 

Google also announced that it will shut down several Calendar features, including Appointment Slots, on January 4, although previously set Appointment Slots will continue to work for a year. Google will also shut down Calendar Sync later today. Google will close its Issue Tracker Data API on June 14. Finally, Google will shut down its Punchd Android iOS and Android app on June 7. The app allowed smartphone owners to keep punched loyalty cards on their smartphones. Google said, "We remained focused on developing products that help merchants and shoppers connect in new and useful ways."
