France Close To Passing Tough Anti-P2P Law

France's National Assembly (the lower house of France's Parliament) is close to passing an anti-P2P law which it was discussing for several weeks, already. This law (if passed) would punish illegal file sharers after receiving multiple warnings by cutting off their Internet access, ranging from one month up to one year.

HADOPI, the "High Authority" created by the law, would "receive and evaluate complaints made by rightsholders about online file-sharing of copyrighted works. It will then issue warnings to ISPs, which are required to pass them along to the customer account in question."
