Adobe today announced Flash Player 11 and AIR 3, which together will help developers deliver a wide range of 3D content and 3D games to mobile devices.

The new technologies are optimized for both wired and wireless internet devices such as those run by Android, iOS, BlackBerry Tablet OS, Mac OS, Windows, and others. Adobe explains that Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 allow developers to choose between a mix of Flash, HTML5, and other standard technologies to create content that will run on a wider range of platforms. Some of the new features called out by Adobe include: hardware-accelerated 2D/3D graphics support for faster rendering; native AIR extensions, which allow developers to tap into hardware such as NFC, sensors, and multiple screens; captive runtime, which lets developers update their applications without forcing users to also update AIR separately; support for HD content, including H.265, 7.1 surround sound, and full-fram HD video; and support for rental/subscription business models. The tools are available from Adobe's web site.
