Microsoft has announced DirectX 11.2. And what has Microsoft decided ? Yup, it is exclusive to Windows 8.1 and next-gen consoles, thus forcing you to upgrade. One of the new features is called tiled resources and allows the video card to use system ram in order to improve texture detail.
