AMD is hosting a video on YouTube. The new DockPort shares a lot in common with AMD's Lightning Bolt, the Intel Thunderbolt rival that was shown off a year or two ago. The new DockPort is a royalty-free extension to the DisplayPort specification that promises to be cheaper than Thunderbolt. DockPort uses passive cables and allows DisplayPort cables to carry USB 3.0 connectivity and power alongside display signals. Support for Mini Displayport connectors is also included. The first DockPort products may arrive in the second half of this year.

AMD's versatile DockPort connection opens up a world of possibilities, like a portable hub where you can charge, transform, accessorize and otherwise connect your device in an all-in-one solution, reducing cable clutter and bringing data and display connectivity to your notebook or tablet via a single, DockPort supported DisplayPort link.
