Acer XB270HU - 144Hz IPS and G-sync

Check this out, the Acer XB270HU we mentioned earlier not only has a IPS panel, but it seems it can do 144Hz IPS and has G-sync support as well. The press release suggests that the screen will still be 27" in size, offering 2560 x 1440 resolution.

What makes this very interesting is that it is labelled as an IPS screen, and offers support for 144Hz refresh rate and support for NVIDIA's G-sync refresh rate technology. This would be the first display featuring an IPS panel with native 144Hz refresh rate and is bound to attract a lot of interest. While the press release mentions IPS as the panel technology, we expect this to be based on the AU Optronics AHVA panel (IPS-type) we discussed back in September. Not to be confused with their similarly named AMVA technology (VA-type), this panel technology is for all intents and purposes the same as LG.Display's IPS technology, in all but the name.

The press release confirms the new model will offer tilt, height and swivel stand adjustments. We believe the screen to feature only a DisplayPort video connection as reported before. It also lists a release date of March 2015. No word on price or other details yet. The 1ms G2G response time spec expected before will no longer apply, and Acer don't currently list that spec in the press release. Nor do they confirm whether the screen will feature NVIDIA's Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB) mode as well. More info as we get it.

We are still confirming 100% with Acer whether this will truly be an IPS-type display, or TN Film as originally expected. Watch this space.
