Motherboard: Epox 8K7A+: $129
DDR is finally here! The early boards didn't have multiplier
adjustments, etc.
That's why I didn't recommend them. But here is a true tweaker's board.
DDR,
multiplier, etc. I'll start looking into the new VIA boards as well.
This board
has RAID.
CPU: Athlon 1.4 Gigahertz 266 fsb: $105
This CPU is so cheap, its going into BOTH systems. I mean, this is
really
insane!
Heatsink: $30
That athlon runs HOT HOT HOT. Put a nice globalwin or alpha on it.
RAM: Crucial DDR 2100 512 Megs: $80
You guys realize I'm just putting stuff in to boost the price a bit,
right? :)
Case: Antec SX830: $80
A great case for anyone. Pretty, spacious, rounded corners. Am I
talking about
a car?
Case Fans: $15
Even though the antec comes with 2, I always like to put 2 more in.
Hard Drive: IBM 2x 60GXP 60 gig: $280
IBM makes some of the best drives in the bus. Period. RAID action baby!
DVD: Pioneer 115: $65
Ok, you get a DVD drive, but you should watch movies on a standalone
player, if
you have one.
Burner: TDK 24/10/40: $139
You can find these on sale all the time, and they're nice.
Graphics Card: GF3: $285
Newest and greatest for the high-end system, right? You might want to
hold-off
though, since the "Titanium" version will be out soon.
Sound Card: Hercules Gametheater XP: $140
Awesome sound quality (for a computer). And the breakout box means much
fun can
be spent recording MDs, etc.
Speakers: Klipsch 4.1: $300
Were you expecting something else? Oh yeah, the 5.1 model is coming out soon. :)
NIC: The one that has a rebate for $10: $10
D-link, linksys, netgear. All good companies. Oh, and 3com and intel if
you
want to pay the premium.
Monitor: Sony F520: $1465
I have to pump the price up somehow. A Sony 21 inch flat screen monitor
just
seems like the right thing to do. I've seen one. It's incredible. (go
for the
g400,f500,f400 if you're more realistic).
Peripherals: $30
Total: $3053 Yes! Got it to $3,000 with that 21 inch sony. I'll say it again.
I
really tried to get the price up! Well, this is the end of this edition of the guide. Cya next time, and
feel
free to drop me a line @ gremlin@freakycow.com , or quign@yahoo.com if
I don't
respond from that
one.
