Motherboard: Epox 8K7A: $114
DDR is finally here! The early boards didn't have multiplier adjustments, etc. That's why I didn't recommend them. But here is a true tweaker's board. DDR, multiplier, etc. I'll start looking into the new VIA boards as well.

CPU: Athlon 1.4 Gigahertz 266 fsb: $105
This CPU is so cheap, its going into BOTH systems. I mean, this is really insane!

Heatsink: $30
That athlon runs HOT HOT HOT. Put a nice globalwin or alpha on it.

RAM: Crucial DDR 2100 256 Megs: $40
I really want to cry. I payed $140 for 2 sticks of 128 pc133 in February for my computer. This is crazy! Put more in if you're running win2k/win xp. But for win98/ME, this is fine. You're passing the point of diminishing returns for those OSes.

Case: Antec SX830: $80
A great case for anyone. Pretty, spacious, rounded corners. Am I talking about a car?

Case Fans: $15
Even though the antec comes with 2, I always like to put 2 more in.

Hard Drive: IBM 60GXP 40 gig: $124
IBM makes some of the best drives in the bus. Period.

DVD: Pioneer 115: $65
Ok, you get a DVD drive, but you should watch movies on a standalone player, if you have one.

Burner: TDK 16/10/40: $120
You can find these on sale all the time, and they're nice.

Graphics Card: GF2 Ultra: $185
I paid this much for my GF2 32 meg Pro at the beginning of this year. 'nuff said. Pop in a next gen GF3 if games start running at unacceptable levels.

Sound Card: Hercules Gametheater XP: $140
Awesome sound quality (for a computer). And the breakout box means much fun can be spent recording MDs, etc.

Speakers: Cambridge FPS1800: $100
I have these, and they sound pretty good. 4.1 sound. A necessity for today's games.

NIC: The one that has a rebate for $10: $10
D-link, linksys, netgear. All good companies. Oh, and 3com and intel if you want to pay the premium.

Monitor: Samsung 955DF: $250
A great 19 inch monitor for everyone. Flatness. mmmmmmm I have the 17 inch model. Wonderful stuff.

Peripherals: $30
Total: $1408

This is scary. Very scary. For under $1500? It's practically a top of the line system!
