GRAPHICS: From the moment i launched the game i was extremely
impressed with the graphics, and all the hard work and detail that
went into the design of both the cars and the tracks. This is without
a doubt a beautiful game. I finished in last place my first several
races because i found myself pulling over to admire the scenery, or
stopping to get a view of a waterfall flowing or a train passing by.
Each track has it's own distinctive look and theme that sets it apart
from the others, and each one has a number of things going on in the
background. The overall effect makes things look very deep, very 3-D,
and very convincing. The scenery and backgrounds do not seem to be
separate from the track, but instead they are an integral part of the
whole look and feel of the game. And the cars?........Oh yes the
wonderful cars!! With just as much detail as the tracks, each car is
modeled to look just like it's real-world counterpart. From the
classics to the modern day machines, each one looks great with even
small details showing up like exhaust tips and the different sizes and
types of wheels and tires. And if you choose the cockpit view, you are
treated to what must surely be the most accurate looking instrument
panels and dashboards ever seen in a video game. Inside and out, the
cars are gorgeous. The instant replays deserve a special mention too,
and are easily the best i have seen. With cars this detailed and
movements this realistic, you would swear you are watching a live race
on TV. There is something very special about sitting back and watching
your most recent victory from the ever changing camera angles and
in-your-face perspectives.
SOUND: The sound in the game is also very well done. From the
squealing of the tires, to the crunching of the sheetmetal as you
pound into a concrete wall or an opponent, it's all there, and very
realistic. And while each track has a graphical theme, it also has its
own unique sounds that accompany the different events taking place in
the background. Each car even has it's own distinctive exhaust note.
The music soundtrack is a mix between rock and upbeat techno, and for
the most part goes well with the action. There is an option to turn it
down or even off if it gets to be too much.
