The possibilities are endless with which type of combination you would like to use. Which is what makes character development that more exciting. Only only a poor sap farming carrots out of cement, you are now a powerful battlemage! If only great grandma was around to see it. Throughout the game you will progress in the story line, and add characters. When you talk to NPC's in the world, you will have a choice of hiring some, or some that will just volunteer. You will be able to control up to 8 characters at once in the single player game. That's a lot of finger speed if you want to keep up! Of course pause/play action has been given to you. In big battles when controlling the many actions of 8 characters at once, you can pause the game, give commands and send them all to their dea.... Victory! The command structure is quite simple. Anything from the formation of the party while exploring, to who they should defend in that same party. Who to attack, and if needed when to high tail it out of there. Each character has its' own inventory, and you can control what character gets what. The micro-managing of items to tweak each party member can get a little bothersome at times - but that is the price you have to pay to conduct larger epic battles. Where to store all of these items? Instead of having to run to a bank every so often, Dungeon Siege has incorporated a portable bank. That's right. Good ol' number 7. A pack mule which you can purchase will follow your party, and of course has more than ample space to store your items for future use or to sell. Bye bye town portal. Bye bye. Speaking of which, travel is done in a way similar to Diablo II. During your travels you will come to platforms which once clicked, will wisk you away to a nearby town. There is even a central hub in which once of the appropriate level for each town, you can go into the hub and click on one of the towns for faster travel.
