PC Power & Cooling Mk III Silencer 750 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/28/2013 09:03 AM [ 4 comment(s) ]

We review the PC Power and Cooling MK III Silencer 750 Watt review from OCZ technology. The Silencer Mk III series are all about being quiet, being awesome and very efficient and again, the PSU as tested today carries a Gold certification. The PSU also improved on the audibility front as it comes with a switch, enabled it and up-to 350 Watt the fan will remain disabled and at that load your PSU merely lukewarm. The 750 PSU is lovely in performance, the one massive 62A 12-volts rails says it all really. Excellent for multi-GPU solutions and hardcore overclockers. The PSU is engineered with merely premium components, including Japanese 105°C capacitors and heavy-duty protection circuitry's.

Good article Hilbert. I like to check newer gear against my current stuff. I still use the PC P&C MKII 750W version but it is nice to know even in last gen hardware I still have a darn good power supply. I believe, however, that you made a maths mistake calculating Power. The proper formula,( which I also use for calculating what an item would sell for in our shop) --

X / % = Y

In your example -- 500W x 1.3 = 650W but 650W x 70% efficiency = 455W

The Correct Way -- 500W / .7 = 714.3W and 714.3W x 70% efficiency = 500W

In a retail setting I would need to charge $714 for something I paid $500 for in order to make a 30% margin based on selling price. Clear as mud right?

Do keep up the good work guys. Been a loyal follower for Articles as well as coming here for my Drivers, Codecs etc. for years now.

Cheers

Nice review Hilbert.

I never understand these semi modular PSUs. It looks tacky. Either make it fully modular or stick to the basic look.

Nice review, Hilbert. They've really stepped things up in the performance, efficiency and style department. My 4-year-old, ugly, red, bundle o' snakes MKII 750 still works great.
