 OCZ ZT 650W Power Supply

There is one top fan; a reasonably quiet 140mm double ball-bearing fan. It comes with RPM control and thus guarantees cool performance and silent operation, yet throttles up when needed. There's a pretty nice and optimal airflow throughout the PSU. The PSU has an ATX design yet is slightly more lengthy, it'll fit in any chassis though, its dimensions are: 150 x 86 x 175mm (W x L x H).

When it comes to wiring we feel that there's enough connectors for a 650W model, have a look at the supplied connectors, all with decent length by the way.

The ATX motherboard connector as well reached to 55CM, the Molex and SATA power cables seem a little short though at 60 to 70 CM, 90 CM would have been preferred here. The ATX CPU connector and PCI-E PEG connectors are 60cm. Below an overview of connector for the three available models.

550W Connectors

  • 1 x 20+4-pin ATX
  • 1 x 4+4-pin ESP/12V CPU
  • 2 x 6+2-pin PCI-E
  • 6 x 4-pin Peripheral
  • 6 x 5-pin SATA
  • 1 x Floppy

650W Connectors

  • 1 x 20+4-pin ATX
  • 1 x 4+4-pin ESP/12V CPU
  • 2 x 6+2-pin PCI-E
  • 6 x 4-pin Peripheral
  • 9 x 5-pin SATA
  • 1 x Floppy

750W Connectors

  • 1 x 20+4-pin ATX
  • 2 x 4+4-pin ESP/12V CPU
  • 4 x 6+2-pin PCI-E
  • 6 x 4-pin Peripheral
  • 9 x 5-pin SATA
  • 1 x Floppy

Graphics card wise with our tested 650W model you get to play with two 6+2 Pin PCie connectors and. And that is enough as it should be able to power a GeForce GTX 590 card just fine, and that card has two 8-pin headers. Wiring wise multi-GPU will be a problem though due to the mere two PCI-E connectors.

We see sleeved cabling with dark colored connectors. That's a good design. The cables have a decent length as discussed.

Last photo, here we can observe power distribution as labeled on the PSU. The +12V rails is beefy alright. You'll get one massive rail of them rated at 54 Amps. 54Ax12V=648 Watt.

OCZ releases the ZT model in a three fold of models, a 550W model priced at 55 EUR, a 650 model priced at 75 EUR and a 750W model priced at 90 EUR (USD conversion is roughly similar at the moment). So you are in the market for an affordable PSU, want a modular design and want bang for buck ? Well, the new ZT series from OCZ seems to do the job quite well.
