Revisited with Firmware 1.5

Today we re-test the second series SSDs based on the OCZ Indilinx 2 controller from OCZ, the Vertex 4 SSDs, delivered with the speed of light here in our binary test facility and now flashed for the 3rd time :)

OCZ Vertex 4 with v1.5 Firmware

The initial review of of the Vertex 4 showed us a drive with potential. The v1.4 firmware made it significantly faster. And now Firmware v1.5 has been released.

OCZ Vertex 4 with v1.5 Firmware

To flash the SSD you simply need the OCZ Technolgy toolbox. You can download the OCZ toolbox here, as displayed with the screenshots.

CURRENT FIRMWARE RELEASE is v1.5

This is NOT a Destructive Flash for firmware version 1.4 and newer.

The update however IS a Destructive Flash for firmware version 1.3 & 1.4RC, back up all data on SSD if you have such firmware's installed and remember that if so -- proceeding with this update will result in complete loss of data on the SSD.

This is a two step firmware update process for firmware older than 1.4.1.2. Otherwise it is one step process.

1. Run OCZ Toolbox. Toolbox will update firmware to 1.4.1.2 first.
2. Shutdown and restart the system.
3. Run OCZ Toolbox again, Toolbox will now update firmware to latest firmware revision.

That completes the firmware update.
