Gold Edition

Product: EL DDR  PC-3200 Gold Edition
Type: DDR 400 (2-2-2-5)
Manufacturer: OCZ Technology

OCZ 2x 512 MB PC3200 2-2-2-5Isn't it spectacular how big OCZ has grown in the last year or two as really important player in the memory industry? I mean, of course they offer more then just memory but they specialized themselves in the market with products that are just breathtaking.

Today's product test is no different from that, it's memory from their high performing Gold series, PC3200 with the fastest timings available: 2-2-2-5! All that in a nice paired Dual Channel package bringing 1 GB of high quality memory to your system.

A package is delivered. I have a look at it, OCZ, cool. You immediately recognize these products due to the heat spreaders. Last week we reviewed some Patriot memory that uses very similar packaging and heat spreaders.  There is a bit of a shootout going on in the memory market as Corsair, Mushkin, OCZ, Crucial and now PDP (Patriot memory) are all fighting hard to reach that 1% of geeks that want the memory with the fastest timings.

The Gold series of product are claimed to be hand-tested products and matched for dual-channel. This way OCZ can offer you the highest performing sticks to you. The heat spreaders I just mentioned might look goldish, yet they are made from copper, which of course is an excellent cooler.

Today's product comes from that lovely Gold line and is a 2x 512 MB memory kit that allows 400 MHz operations at very brisk 2-2-2-5 RAM timings and can go up to a way higher frequency if you can boost the memory with enough voltage that is. Under that golden hood we'll find Winbond BH memory that will offer you extremely low timings even at high overclocks. But the true Guru's among you already know that Winbond memory means you're gonna need a high memory voltage. The PC-3200 Gold series also offers ULN2 (Ultra Low Noise) technology which utilizes optimized printed circuit boards to significantly reduce electrical noise and enhance overall speed and stability across all applications.

Before you decide to buy this memory make sure that your mainboard can handle increasing the voltage of your memory though, as this memory needs 2.8 Volts (2.6 normally)! This memory ensures you that it can take it to an even higher voltage though. Don't be afraid to pump 3.0 or 3.1 Volts in it as it'll love it.

All that backed by a life-time warrantee, let's fire up this review.
