But What Does It Sound Like?

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find myself on Youtube watching people type on their keyboards. Perfectly normal. Not trying to trigger your ASMR, but I’ve put together a collection of keyboard sounds for your subjective listening pleasure. We recorded me typing two different sentences, once at full speed, and then at half speed. Lastly the swipe across the keys.

GMMK - Stock Keycaps

Download MP3 - Using the stock keycaps, the GMMK sounds quite good. It’s also very good to type on, if a little rattly. It’s like a pair of worn-in shoes, very comfortable. There’s a good amount of ping, which makes it sound like a good old Model M.

GMMK - Tai-hao Purple PBT Doubleshots

Download MP3 - Not much difference, to tell you the truth. There’s a little more, sharper, clack, a little deeper sound, but that’s about it. You’d think it would be more pronounced, but it’s a testament to the stock keycaps.

Download MP3 - Thock, thock. A Realforce sounds like a Realforce, no matter where you are.

Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja w/PBT keycaps

Download MP3 - This board with Cherry MX Browns can get very loud, and with the thick PBT keycaps, it’s a very clackity racket.

Ducky YotG w/MX Black and stock keycaps

Download MP3 - Hadn’t used this keyboard much, but wow, is it a solid keyboard. Deep and satisfying, the keys don’t clack so much as thump.

Rosewill RK-9100BR with stock keycaps

Download MP3 - Surprisingly good to type on, another MX Brown switch keyboard that is very solid.

Apple USB Keyboard

Download MP3 - I thought it would be a good joke to include this keyboard, but you know, it’s actually a good keyboard. I certainly wouldn’t use it with a gaming PC, however. Notice that there’s virtually no noise, except for the space bar.

Dell SK-8115 The Classic Rubber Dome

Download MP3 - It’s a classic rubber dome, and one of the better ones. It’s still terrible compared to a mechanical keyboard. I do appreciate that millions of people typed millions of things on these, though. I washed my hands twice after I used it.
