Corsair Obsidian 450D review - Article

Today we review the Corsair Obsidian 450D. It is the latest iteration in the series, let's call it a mainstream version in the Obsidian chassis series. Not full, mini bit a nice mid-tower intended for mainstream to high-end class PCs.The details and features  are really good. Armed with a competitive price this might be the product a lot of you are on the lookout for.

Obsidian - back in the Roman Empire, if a person discovered some sort of mineral they would call him Obsius, it nearly forms the name of today's tested product. So when the Obsius found a, usually black or banded, hard volcanic glass that displays shiny, curved surfaces when fractured and is formed by rapid cooling of lava -- it was called... Obsidian. 

You'll find multiple product in the Obsidian line, from that ober 900D tagged as Super Tower chassis, the 350D was has a more compact design. I could go on as Corsair released a 900D, 750D, 350D and 250D, the 450D was imminent to sit right between them all, it has to be a mid-sized tower. The Obsidian 450D series mid-tower PC chassis was manufactured with the goal to give high-end hardware, including water cooling enough room at an affordable price. Obviously the chassis needed to get the same feel and aesthetics of the Obsidian series of enclosures.

Regarding hardware, the case offers room for ATX, Micro ATX, E-ATX, and Mini ITX motherboards as well as graphics cards up to 430 mm long and CPU coolers up to 165 mm tall. Included is a modular hard drive cage, which can be removed, or more can be ordered for added storage. Inside this modular cage there is room for either three 2.5"/3.5" drives. Up front there is also room for three 5.25" optical drives, and behind the motherboard tray there is room for up to two 2.5" SSDs. The case measures 494mm x 210mm x 497mm, and weighs about 7 kg when empty. Fan locations align with the room for radiators, with no room for fans where radiators aren't supported. Dust filters are also present on all the intakes of the case. Front I/O exists out of a pair of USB 3.0 ports and standard HD audio jacks.
