We can now easily and safely lift the reference cooler. One quick look before we move on. Clean the GPU carefully and remove that residual thermal paste.
First step in installing the Xtreme is locating the voltage regulators. You can't miss them. We stick the heatsink onto it and secure it with two screws.
Then we apply thermal pads to all memory chips and one voltage regulator which actually is located slightly above my finger.
At the backside we do the same. All memory chips will get a thermal pad.
We are nearly done already. We take the cooling unit, put it on it's back and then line up the VGA card with the cooler mounting holes. At this point do not forget to connect the power connector of the cooler to the PCB.
Arctic Accelero Xtreme 2900 VGA cooler review The Accelero Xtreme features with 5 heatpipes, 107 fins and 3 power managed fans. The design has been improved for optimized air flow design obviously to cool effectively, which according to Arctic is up to 240 Watt heat dissipation; that's quite a lot. They claim to can dramatically bring down the heat from GPU at least 20ºC lower than the stock cooler. Well .. let's slap a Radeon 2900 XT on it and see how well it does the job then.
