AMD Radeon HD 7850 and 7870 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 03/04/2012 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

We review the AMD Radeon HD 7850 and 7870. These two new mid-range cards are going to shift the dynamics in the graphics arena alright, as the entire package including performance is really impressive for the 7800 series. A product series that is to replace the 6800-series performance-wise, it is based on AMD's 28nm process and of course the latest Graphics Core Next GPU architecture.

Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 OC WindForce review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/22/2012 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

We test the Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 OC (WindForce) edition. It's a fully fetched R7970 on a customized PCB, it comes factory overclocked for you and next to that they applied their popular WindForce cooler, the one that has a cool number of three active fans. The results are pretty impressive as you'll find out, that factory overclock is boils down to a default clock frequency of 1000 MHz on the GPU core. Next to that the WindForce cooler is able to keep the product under 65 Degrees C, and that's under full load and stress.

HIS Radeon HD 7750 iCooler review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/15/2012 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

HIS decided to jump on the bandwagon and releases a slightly customized R7750, it's named the HIS 7750 iCooler 1GB. As you can tell from the photo below the card is all customized, a nice blue PCB and a cooler, that though eats two slots, makes the cards virtually silent. Much much better then the reference AMD design really. The card remains 100% reference clocked though at a price of give or take 99 USD it might give it enough bite for a game or two in the lower resolutions.

It's now February 2012 and AMD thinks they have a new '5770' in their hands. The codename is 'Cape Verde' for the GPU, and the graphics cards deriving from them are the Radeon HD 7750 and 7770 One GHz edition. This is not a refresh it is a completely new GPU based on the same technology that powers the R7900 series, the GCN architecture. Head on over to the next page where we'll meet and greet Cape Verde, aka Radeon HD series 7700.

MSI joins in on the Radeon HD 7770 release with their own custom model. They use their own custom 4-layer PCB and equipped it with a dual slot - dual fan cooler. The end result is the R7770 2PMD1GD5, we test the OC edition model. Over the next few pages we'll walk through three standard reference technology and then place our focus on the R7770 2PMD1GD5 OC. But not before you have had a peek alright.

MSI is added in our line-up of R7950 reviews with a customized model. It is the TwinFrozr III version that clocks in at a nice 880 MHz on the graphics core with it's memory clocked default at an effective data rate of 5000 MHZ. It is locked and loaded with 3GB of graphics memory and dressed to impress.

HIS Radeon HD 7950 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/30/2012 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

It is time for the second product based of the series 7900 though, the Radeon HD 7950 launches today. AMD took the Tahiti XT GPU sliced away some shader units, clocked it a notch slower and planted it onto a new PCB lined up with a new cooler. Overall the R7950 will not disappoint, good performance, impressive power consumption and great heat and noise levels. But will a 400 EUR pricetag however justify this product ?

AMD Radeon HD 7970 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/21/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

We review the Radeon HD 7970. Injected in the 499 EUR / 549 USD price tag bracket the product will have to compete directly with the equally expensive GeForce GTX 580, it will actually be a decent notch better then that IMHO. The results that you'll witness today will not dishearten. Where it matters (the latest and newer games) the Radeon HD 7970 will be a good 20%, 30% sometimes even 40% faster then the competition, and in the world of enthusiast graphics performance that's what we call, a product with a little extra booty.

KFA2 GeForce GTX 570 MDT X4 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 12/11/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

We review the KFA2 GeForce GTX 570 MDT X4. The card supports 2 / 3 / 4 monitors in span mode and 2x2 in stack mode over the DVI connectors. KFA2 takes that GTX 570 to the next level though, custom PCB, custom cooling and then a finger licking default overclock at 800 MHz on the graphics core.

MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448 core OC Power review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/28/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

The product reviewed today comes from MSI. It's their all new GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448 core tagged under the codename N560GTF-448 TwinFrozr III Power Edition, which comes factory faster clocked. The card comes with a triple over-voltage function which supports voltage adjustment of GPU, memory & VDDCI. And the power indication hints towards a P/S Switch Function where two fan speed profiles (Performance / Silence) can be configured. The product will get that new GPU seated into a custom PCB and will be cooled by that lovely TwinFrozr III cooler.

EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 2Win review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/06/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

Two GeForce GTX 560 Ti cards setup in SLI offer a lot of performance for roughly 400 EUR / 450 USD, and with that in mind EVGA has started developing a custom PCB, with two GTX 560 TI GPU's on-board. With games like Battlefield 3, Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City and Crysis 2 DX11, that might be a terrific alternative in the Q4 holiday season for many. The newfangled card is called the EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 2Win. A card with cool looks, a pair of GF114 GPUs and heck it even comes a little overclocked for ya.

ASUS Radeon HD 6770 DirectCU Silent review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/01/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

Today we look at the ASUS Radeon HD 6770 DirectCU Silent edition. An entry level product series for gamers based on a juniper graphics core that still can flex its muscle. The x-factor for this particular product however is that its completely passively cooled, what should be a relatively small card .. ends up like the USS enterprise in terms of size and design.
