One of the most successful products in the GeForce FX line-up from NVIDIA has to be the GeForce FX 5900 XT. You simply can't go wrong with this product can't you. It offers the full 5900 series architecture and thus a big proportion of that high-end performance yet the product is extremely affordable. It's one of those, 'most bang for your bucks' graphics cards. When you take that fact and a manufacturer like Prolink which has a reputation for building high-quality and stylish designed graphics cards well then the end result must be staggering ..

When I first asked NVIDIA about the 5500 they seemed utterly surprised and asked why I was reviewing a 5500. Hey it's a big market and NVIDIA sells more low and mid end products then high-end. So why not ?

The product we will review today is the new NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 XT. I say new because it's fresh in the Quarter 4 lineup from NVIDIA. BTW NVIDIA, copycatting is not really a nice thing, the XT obviously has been chosen to compete with the Radeon 9x00 XT series of graphics cards.

Today's product review will be about Creative's Radeon 9600 with 256 MB memory ... that's right 256 MB ! An ongoing trend lately is that we see more, much more memory utilized on graphics cards. Especially the high-end segment seems to need that extra chunk of memory to be as efficient as the card needs to be.

Radeon 9800 XT, a highly efficient and programmable graphics card with a computational speed that is simply breathtaking. The product ladies and gentlemen is nothing new in the sense of technology. What you are looking at is a refresh product, faster clocked and better cooled Radeon 9800 Pro with a very nice cooling solution on top of it.

Gainward Ultra 760 XP Golden review
Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 09/02/2003 06:00 AM [ 0 comment(s) ]
Armed with a RED PCB, kick'ass cooling and ramsinks Gainward tried to get your attention. That's not it though, the product is fully VIVO (Video In and Video Out) which means you can playback and record media files. Also included into the package is a FireWire card to connect your DV camera or any other FireWire device and the software to start editing movies at consumer level. All-in-all an impressive package for a mid-end product. The GPU is of course a capable of utilizing DirectX9 (although poor performance) Pixel Shaders 2.0+, Vertex Shader 2.0+ and OpenGL. Basically this product is in the mid-end range and offers with it's cut-down 4 pixel pipeline (four single textured pixels, or two dual textured pixels) value for your money.

And while Creative Asia and North America are selling ATI Radeon based products right now the lineup from Creative Europe still is based on nVIDIA products. From that nVIDIA line-up they granted us with the honor of testing their top-of-the-line 3D Blaster 5 FX5900 Ultra.
