Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/15/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

ASUS initially had a mild success with the Sabertooth series, they carefully launched just in the USA as a tryout, yet once the concept picked up, they noticed demand worldwide. Head on over to the next page where we'll discuss the X79 chipset, the respective ASUS models. Then we'll throw a decent photo-shoot and a benchmark suite at the products and get an indication what performance is like with the Intel Core i7-3960X (Sandy Bridge-E) and X79 Platform.

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 11/13/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

The ROG team this time went wild, releasing a motherboard with all the features that last-gen motherboards should have such as USB 3.0 connectivity, Bluetooth, eSATA connectors, SATA 6.0Gbps, and 7.1 channel audio, but the real x-factor of the Rampage IV Extreme can only be found when we look at its overclocking features. Head on over to the next page where we'll discuss the X79 chipset, the respective ASUS model. Then will throw a decent photo-shoot and a benchmark suite at the products and get an indication what performance is like with the Intel Core i7-3960X (Sandy Bridge-E) and X79 Platform.

Gigabyte has been on a hot streak lately to produce some of the nicest motherboards targeted at games. The Initial Killer/Sniper series has shown a completely new style from Gigabyte, a series that steps away from that baby blue color, towards a matte black PCB, a 'gun' theme, quality components and nifty extra's like a high-end Ethernet controller and even an integrated SoundBlaster X-Fi soundcard.

During our stay in Taiwan we had the unique opportunity to visit the ECS headquarters located in the Taipei Neihu Technology Park. We'll show awesome building photo's but then quickly move onwards towards the Research and Development department where the good stuff is designed from PCB CAD design stages, the BIOS team and actually research and development. We have prepared some high-definition video footage as well, showing you SMT soldering, the cubicles, some test gear on the R&D floor like temperature probing and signal processing monitoring.

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 05/30/2011 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

The TUF series (The Ultimate Force) Sabertooth 990FX is what we'll be placing under our microscope today, styled in the very same color as the earlier models with the ceramic design we see a lot of resemblances. But hey no tactical jacket anymore though. This AM3+ motherboard will be powered by a 10-phase Digi+ VRM. Socket AM3+ will support the Bulldozer based Zambezi FX Series Processors which launch later. The Sabertooth 990FX will come with four DDR3 DIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory up-to DDR3-1866 MHz straight from the EFI BIOS. What you'll also notice is that the TUF (The Ultimate Series) has four PCI-Express 2.0 x16 PCIe graphics card slots based on what you use the slots for of course. Interesting fact is that this motherboard series now is SLI compatible.

Jetway HI08 P67 motherboard review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 05/12/2011 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

Amongst a long line of reviews on motherboards based on this chipset we have checked out premium brands mostly. There's always more in the market, Jetway for example ... a company making a lot of OEM products for other businesses, but they do have their own retail production line. Though hard to find in the stores these product promise good quality, features and often an excellent price, yep allow me to repeat that -- always an excellent price.

ASUS P8Z68 V PRO Intel Z68 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 05/10/2011 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

Intel is closing a gap with the Z68 chipset. A chipset that has the full feature set of BOTH the H67 and P67 chipsets and then it also has a little surprise in store. With the Z68 Intel also introduces Intel Smart Response Technology, which allows you to use a SSD to cache a large volume HDD, it's a bit of a hybrid mode, a symbiosis of the two to gain on static storage performance. Next to that most Z68 motherboards will get the ability to switch in-between the processor IGP and a dedicated graphics card. That means you could use the Sandy Bridge IGP for seriously fast transcoding, yet once you want to play a game your dedicated graphics card, that 3D accelerated solution will kick in. Pretty cool stuff, in theory.

Gigabyte G1.Sniper X58 review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 04/21/2011 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

We review the G.1Sniper motherboard from Gigabytes Killer series. With good looks, excellent performance, great overclockability and then in addition to it all extra's, adding a SATA 6G controller, USB 3.0, but also the BigFoot KillerNIC has been integrated into this motherboard, and Realtek audio ? Heck it's been kicked out. There's actually a fully fetched Creative Labs X-Fi (20K2) DSP mounted into the motherboard to bring better audio capability into your PC. All in all it's a very impressive motherboard not only features wise, yet also in terms of sheer design.

ASUS Rampage III Black Edition review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 04/07/2011 01:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

ASUS are launching the ASUS Rampage III Black Edition and it just has to be the most exclusive X58 motherboard we have ever had our hands on. Improved overclockability, black design (including a black colored BIOS). The spec-sheet might read pretty similar to last year's Rampage III Extreme, but there have been a few tweaks alright. The board now sports a quartet of PCIe x16 slots capable of supporting three-way SLI or four-way CrossFireX, support for 24GB DDR3 at speeds of up to 2,200MHz and then the fun begins, USB 3.0, SATA 6G, a ThunderBolt add-on card that integrates Xonar sound as well as BigFoot's Killer NPU.

MSI Big Bang P67 Marshal review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/02/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

Powered by Intel's P67 chipset, the MSI Big Bang Marhal comes with MSI's latest Military Class II design that makes use of a 24 phase (!) power SFC choke setup alongside the best quality Hi-c CAP's and Japanese made solid capacitors. Added to the mix for additional PCIe lanes is a Hydra chip, which also can be utilized to combine mix and match graphics cards in a multi-GPU setup. The board comes with 24-phase DrMOS power design, voltage monitoring points, an external overclock device called the OC dashboard, that all new EFI BIOS, dual-BIOS selectable with a simple button, and OC genie button that allows you to have say a 2500K processor run at 4200 with the flick of a switch. I'm not done though, we spot integrated audio with SoundBlaster X-Fi application (software) layer, ten SATA ports of which four are based on the all new SATA 6G. Thick heatpipe (passive and thus silent) cooling and more and more. This board is a true hardware enthusiast dream come true, or is it ?

ECS P67H2-A motherboard review

Posted by: Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/18/2011 02:00 PM [ 0 comment(s) ]

Today the turn goes to the folks from ECS who put out some serious kit on the market. ECS was also working on a few of these P67 motherboards and is making sure that both NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards work combined together. Yep, they are adding a Lucid Hydra chip like some of the competition is doing as well. Anyway, the offering tested today is the P67H2-A socket LGA 1155 motherboard which is powered by a 14-phase VRM. An absolutely lovely to look at motherboard as this is a serious design you guys.

Powered by Intel's P67 chipset, we'll review that stunning looking P67A-UD4 Sandy bridge ready motherboard. A motherboard that is using a 12+2 phases design cooled by passive grey heatsinks. Powered by Intel's P67 chipset, the MSI P67-GD65 motherboard comes with two PCIe slots and has both NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFire support, featuring what MSI now calls a Military Class II design that makes use of a six phase power SFC choke setup.
