There are six copper based (nickel plated) heatpipes of which three are arranged in a U-shape design, the other three are a bit twisted away from U-shaped heatpipes. Additional holes in the fins are there for more efficient ventilation.
When we flip it around (plastic protection covers this) we see an all copper yet nickel plated base.
Not exactly a 100% mirror flat finish, there's room for some improvement, though it's real flat and good. Bear in mind, the kit as tested supports Intel socket LGA 1366 / 1156 and 775 only.
