The Shuttle DS57U

The Shuttle DS57U

So the Shuttle DS57U is a fully capable desktop computer really, limited of course in overall performance, but powerful enough for all basic functions with a very decent processor and graphics implementation which offers good multimedia features. The GPU embedded is in fact Broadwell based, GT2 which is clocked at 800 MHz and comes with 48 shader processors (which can be utilized for post-processing and enhancing video content). This iGPU also has a video processor to accelerate and decode high-definition 1080P content. The combination of the embedded video processor and shader processors on that GPU is of course excellent and is what's making these products so popular. The Shuttle DS57U is especially good for high definition video, some (very low level) gaming, sharing digital photos, surfing the web, listening to music. It's the combination of the processor implementation and the energy efficient Intel Celeron processor that makes the proper combination here.

The Shuttle DS57U comes with a wide array of connectivity options including MSATA, 4 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2x Gigabit LAN, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, DisplayPort and HDMI (Full HD 1080p compatible), stereo output and also a handy embedded memory card reader. Really lovely is the Wireless 802.11n Wi-Fi that is integrated for quick network transfers, plenty fast enough to stream HD content.

Here's what Shuttle has to say about it:

Fanless Slim PC with Celeron processor for numerous applications
The DS57U is a fanless slim PC with a robust 1.3 litre metal chassis and exceptional connectivity: HDMI, DisplayPort, Dual Intel LAN, USB 3.0/2.0, serial ports, audio, card reader and W-LAN. Installation of components goes straight forward, as there is plenty of interior space for two memory modules, a 2.5" drive and an mSATA module. The built-in Dual Core Intel Celeron processor with integrated HD graphics provides ample performance for fluent playback of video at 1080p Full HD quality. Thanks to its re-designed passive cooling architecture, the system is virtually maintenance-free and is approved for 24/7 nonstop operation. It is big on performance, yet extremely energy-efficient. The Shuttle Slim-PC Barebone DS57U is an ideal platform for professional applications such as digital signage, POS, Kiosk, Thin Client, Cloud Computing, Office PC and Multimedia.

This product obviously does not use regular memory DIMM modules, you'll need to hunt down some 1.35V (needs to be that voltage) DDR3 SODIMMs (laptop memory) and the HDD/SSD you'll fit into the product has to have a 2.5" size (laptop size). All of this was done to design a product as small as possible.
