Introduction - Radeon HD 7870 Overclocking Guide
We just reviewed the Radeon HD 7850 and 7870 with two retail models. We want to add another article dedicated to the R7870 though, in specific tweaking performance with the R7870 which is the card in the 7800 series catered for tweaking and overclocking ( at least to our humble opinion).
Overclocking never comes without risk, but it sure as heck is interesting to see how far you can take a card. As such today an article dedicated on overclocking the Radeon HD 7870. We'll overclock based on a mild voltage tweak. By doing so we drive the R7870 into R7900 series performance. All you need is some free software and a little time to precisely determine and pinpoint your maximum yet stable overclock.
With a card like the Radon HD 7870 already running at a 1 GHz core clock frequency, our target really was to achieve a stable 1150~1200 MHz overclock, adding a good 15 to 25% additional performance towards your GPU limited games.
Hey once again we'll be happy to demonstrate it all for you. The Radeon HD 7000 series have proven one thing, each and every one of them whether that is the 7700, 7800 or 7900 series are grand overclockers.
So go to the next page please where we'll have a little chatter on how to overclock. Obviously we'll also show you the differences in power consumption, heat and noise levels.
