BioShock Infinite Frame Experience Analysis
Above, the percentile chart of the 30 seconds gaming @ 2560x1440. Here we plot FPS and place it in relation to percentiles.
- 50% of the time measured frames is doing 75 FPS.
- The last 5% of the frames is at 47 FPS or lower.
You'll notice that here that the frametime recoding has way more spikes, some of them passing 30-40ms, a handful of them are visually noticeable. They remain small though to not be irritating. And again the fat bars for the R7990 indicate micro-stuttering where each frame is alternating from a lower to a higher latency. It's hard, real hard to visually see it though, that's the honest truth.
The good news though is, AMD already released a Beta driver with frame-spacing towards press. We received it, unfortunately it's Windows 8 only (at the moment), and considering we ditched Windows 8 we can't show you the progress thus far.
And again the 13.5 Beta 2 prototype driver. It is hard to detect and see, but the frame pacing prototype driver does have a bit of effect, the turnaround latency is getting much smaller. It's work in progress but there are some imporevements.
