Patriot Viper RGB memory is available with heat spreaders in two colors - black and white – we got the first variant. It was packed in a colorful cardboard box with a blister plastic, stickers with Viper logo and a brief note. A sticker on the top right shows compatibility with RGB-sync systems. Below you can find the rated speed of the kit.
The packaging is your typical clamshell, cheap but effective. Both sticks are held securely. Heatspreaders are integrated with the PCB by using an adhesive pad on each side, and it would require significant strength (or heating it up with say a hairdryer for quite a long time) to dismantle them, so I didn’t do it, and do not recommend to do so either.
Here’s how it looks like after unpacking. These are two 8 GB modules with a frequency of 3200 MHz. Very attractive design, PCB is black, so it should match most of the motherboards. The aluminum heat spreader has a textured matte finish. Patriot Viper memory looks really attractive, even classically. Lightbars are relatively massive and thick. That, of course, is good for the area of RGB lighting.
On the sticker, you can see that it’s a kit of 2x 8GB with 3200 MHz and CL16 at 1.35 Volts. These days – 16 GB is an optimal amount of memory for a proper gaming PC. For the best performance and compatibility, we recommend sticking to the settings from preconfigured XMP profile.
The total height of module is 45.4 mm/1.78 inch. That shouldn’t make an issue with most of the air coolers (Noctua NH-D15 with one fan has a clearance of about 60 mm) on the market, and of course AIOs, but it would be of course better to double check, if any interference could occur, before buying this set.
