Final Words & Conclusion

The ZT series is a power supply that offers both value and performance versus good modular options. The whopping 54 Amps 12 rails is impressive, you could peak to 648 Watt alone on there if you wanted to. So the PSU certainly has a lot of reserve stacked away. For that reason alone it is a bit of a missed opportunity to only see two 6/8 pin PCI-E headers. This PSU would even take two 7970's quite well.

Now, if you are not in the market for an truly expensive highly efficient model power supply with all whistles and bells, like safe guard with flashing LEDs, but simply want a honest decent efficiency stable PSU with a good featureset, well then the PSU tested today will be a nice alternative.

Efficiency wise we did expect to see slightly better numbers as the PSU hints more towards a standard 80+ certification rather then a 80+ Bronze certification if you compare it to other 80+ power supplies. How much that matters to you is all up-to you of course.

If we look at other factors like noise then we are satisfied, but not 100% happy. Under stringent load you can hear the PSU, in desktop mode / Idle status you'll hear it silently. Heat wise under hefty gaming consuming 500W it might get lukewarm at best, that's it really as there simply is plenty of ventilation available.

Some love and some frown upon the lack of modular cables. Personally I adore modular cables on power supplies as you get to use the cables that you need. So there's no spaghetti swarm of cabling inside the PSU killing the cool looks. For that reason alone the ZT series offer tremendous value as it is 100% modular, up-to the the ATX motherboard connector. The peripheral connectors all have the new style of flat-cable and all the connectors are black. So in a PC with a side panel window, this PSU is going to look good alright.

Connectors wise there's plenty available for a 650W model, though we would have preferred two extra 6pin PCIe PEG graphics power connectors on the 650 model opposed to just the two  6/8 PCI-E connectors. The cabling is overall lengthy enough and it should otherwise not be an issue to reach any of the components even with a big-tower chassis. guru3d-recommended_150px.jpg

What's classy is that this series is backed by a cool five year warranty, so really it's hard to go wrong with this product. At 75 EUR / USD the 650W ZT offers good bang for buck and it's simply a very respectable power supply from OCZ.

We would have liked to see overall efficiency a notch higher, but other then that all lights are green as far as we are concerned. To define it simply, the PSU offers a good balance in-between modability, performance and power. And as such the OCZ ZT 650W power supply definitely comes recommended.
