MOVA 256 USB Pen Drive - Benchmarks & Conclusion

Do note that all the SANDRA benchmarks are synthetic and thus are may not tally with real-life performance. The latter stands for whatever your environment is, i.e. which applications you run with what amount of data and so on. It is up to you to decide whether what Sandra measures is what you want to measure. And since we are affiliated with SiSoft:

  • Download SANDRA (a special Guru3D.com edition).

SANDRA File System Benchmark kB/sec
Buffered Read 966
Sequential Read 967
Random Read 967
Buffered Write 885
Sequential Write 897
Random Write 897

I've been back reading some other reviews and crosscompared performance a little. This Mova Pen Drive is producing the fastest results among names like TwinMOS Mobile Disk, EasyDisk and Trancemds JetFlash. Of course I also dis a manual test, I simply took a 105 MB sized file and copied it from and towards the Mova Pen.

  • Write: 105.7MB:273sec = 387 kB/sec
  • Read: 105.7MB:107sec = 988 kB/sec

Kinda interesting to see the write speed differ so much with Sandra. The read speed was right on PAR though. So expect about ~1 MB/sec with this drive for reading data and a little less than 400 kB/sec when it writes.

Conclusion
Let's sum it all up. Pen drives are extremely convenient. I mean just like any other HardDrive the sole purpose is storage. Downside, it writes too slow and the sizes in terms of capacity are small in this year and age. I really do believe these things are the future though when that read/write process has speeded up to more acceptable figures in time they can even replace your HD. But we have to look at the product now and right now the product is rather slow and kinda expensive at 150 USD.

On the positive side it's easy to use and hey .. if you hadn't figured it out this one it's an awesome backup device. Furthermore easy to connect, light-weight, small, completely indifference to magnetic fields and last but certainly not the least .. no noise from a mechanism at all. Use it to go to your friends and share your MP3's, photo's, graphics card drivers or whatever you need to share. This is where the pen drive is convenient for an ideal device to transport data from one PC to another.
