Here we see the bundle and packaging for the 6870 which we'll also put to the test today. No real extras aside from the standard basics.

Opposed to the 6850 we've just shown you, the Radeon HD 6870 is 100% reference based, that includes both the card, clocks and cooling. We find the performance of this card to be quite interesting alright. Again, a very similar cooler design, nice black PCB and dark coloring schema, but the only thing different here compared to the reference design is that HIS sticker.

At the front side, exactly the same monitor connectivity, two DisplayPort 1.2 connectors, HDMI 1.4a and two DVI connectors (only one dual-link). By the way, a single link DVI connector will still get you up-to a monitor resolution of 1900x1200.

At the backside here also we spot one CrossfireX connector/finger at the top right side. This means this card also can be set up in CrossfireX 2-way mode only. We expect that the upcoming Cayman based graphics card (6900) will get two CFX fingers though.

At the top side (as the board is a little longer) we spot two 6-pin PCIe PEG headers, the board has a rated TDP of 150W, each 6-pin PCIe PEG connector can carry 75 Watts and the PCie bus another 75W. These are of course theoretical figures, a PSU can push through much more.

Here also a nice photo of the product alive and in action in our test-setup. Somehow, these are always the more beautiful product photos. Anyway, let's continue with the article, next up is 1080P video processing.
