Hercules XPS 2.1 50 Speaker Kit - Satellite Speaker Units

Satellite Speaker Units

The Satellite speaker units from the XPS system are magnetically shielded which is good news for those who wish to use them near a CRT TV or monitor. As you may or may not know, Magnets are very bad for picture tubes and can damage your CRT units making repair necessary.

The left and right satellite speaker units come with snap-on bases that allow the speakers to sit on an angle on your desk. They are quite easy to install and remove so if you decide to hang them on the wall
you can remove the bases.

The rear half of the satellite speaker units have molded mounting holes in the casings, making mounting the speakers on your walls near your PC monitor or laptop monitor quite easy to do.

The units have a sleek modern styling that would match with many newer monitor styles and PC cases. Long gone are the white block speakers that used to infect our nice setups back in the day. My personal review system is comprised of black and silver components which most of the modern system are. The system fit in very well with my set-up.

The satellite speak units on the XPS 50 2.1 system are one way, meaning they have one driver speaker in the cabinet. This one drive handles both mid-range and high frequency sound. The preferred system would be two-way with drivers for both mid range and high range but at this price point one way drivers are more than acceptable and almost expected.

The right channel satellite speaker unit contains the master volume/power control.

  • 2 X 8W RMS @ 1kHz 10% THD + 1*16W RMS @ 100Hz 10%THD
  • 64 W Peak Power
  • SNR @ 1 kHz > 80dB
  • Amplifier: Class AB

The power snaps on at the lowest volume and after that you have volume control. On the right side of the cabinet you have a 3.5 mm headphone output which mutes the speakers and subwoofer unit. There is also a line-in which allows easy connection for consumer electronics units such as CD players,MP3 players or Digital Video Players.

The right hand satellite is permanently wires to the subwoofer unit where as the left channel has a RCA plug that connects to the rears of the subwoofer unit.
