4. How much money did you spend on the rig as it is right now?

Well I built the original rig almost 2 years ago and I had about 3000$ into it then with the monitor and my old case. The desk was about $175 5 years ago and all the mods i have done myself for free. So all said and done with the new cards and parts about $4000.

5. How often do you update/buy a new rig?

I update about every 8 months to a year with video cards, but a full system about every 2 to 3 years.

6. What components are used?

My system specs are the following:

  • Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard
  • I7 920 @ 3.8 GHZ with Noctua NH D14
  • EVGA GTX 480's in SLI
  • 6 GB Corsair XMS3 1600mhz
  • Antec Truepower 1200w power supply
  • Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Music
  • Logitech G15 Keyboard
  • Logitech G9X Mouse
  • Hauppauge TV tuner
  • LG DVD/RW
  • Creative P7800 speakers
  • 2 WD 500 GB in RAID 0 (stripe)
  • Hitachi 1 TB/WD 1 TB in RAID 1 (mirror)
  • 2 Coolermaster 120 led fans
  • 1 Antec 200mm 3 speed fan

7. Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel or AMD?

I turn a blind eye to the names on the cards. I have owned many of each, I use whatever is deemed best for me. My previous 2 cards were a 5850 then a 5970. I went with the 2 480's for the sheer performance. Hot, yeah, Noisy, a little, haul ass, sure do.

With the processors again, I am not a fan boy I have owned both. When it comes down to the numbers, benchmarks, and performance though (right now), the Intel processors are ahead of the game (in my opinion). When, or if AMD releases a better processor I will hand them the money just the same.
