You all will agree with me that if there has been one technology exciting, new and dynamic .. it is the development and evolution of SSD, Solid State Disks.  We already hinted last year that SSD drives would see a breakthrough this year. And that certainly did happen, though lately haunted by little snags and quarks.

With new technology come new challenges, but seen from an overall point of view, this technology is moving so hard that with each week or 3-4 we see some sort of invention related to speed increases. For example take the OCZ Z Drive, a combined SSD product slapped onto a RAID controller (RAID0) which will be rocking at 600MB/s read speeds, as well as a maximum write speed of up to 500MB/s. One can only imaging where we'll be, five years from now.

The fact remains that the products are getting faster with each month that passes and prices are slowing down. With Windows 7 up and coming we feel that SSD technology will really take off as that OS is (supposedly) optimized for SSD technology. Meanwhile my primary work system, in fact the system I'm typing on right now, has a 64 GB SSD drive. Installed in the summer of last year. Never regretted that. Though you need to take some precautions, it still horribly fast and I certainly enjoy having it in my system.

So ever since last year two things have changed for the better, overall performance has increased and prices have gone down. For roughly the price of a 64GB SSD last year, you can now purchase a 128 GB model that's much faster as well.

Today we have just such an example: the G.Skill 128 GB Titan SSD.  A SATA-II 2.5" drive with a 300 EUR price tag and 200 MB/sec read and 160 MB/sec write speeds. Over the next few pages we'll take you into the review, tell a thing or two about the technology and obviously test the product to see where it stands out in performance compared to other SSD and HDD drives. Next page please.
