Introduction

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Aorus 8G 11 Gbps
The Aorus GTX 1080 tweaked with faster memory

We have a new GeForce GTX 1080 review ready, and not your usual one. We review the new GeForce GTX 1080 AORUS 8G, it has been fitted with new and faster 11 Gbps memory. This card is custom cooled and tweaked with super fast. Let's check out the new 8 GB model from Gigabyte, the GTX 1080 AORUS 11 Gbps with 11,008 MHz clocked memory.

Last year the full range of Pascal based processors was released. Among them the GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080. Both models honestly are equally impressive in their product positioning, though I do feel the 1070 will be the more attractive product due to its price level, while the 1080 cards are really what everybody want (but perhaps can't afford). The good news though is that the board partner cards offer SKUs for less opposed to the Nvidia reference / Founder edition cards. Obviously the higher-end all customized SKUs will likely level with that founders edition card price level again, but I am pretty certain you'd rather spend your money on a fully customized AIB card that is already factory tweaked a bit opposed the reference one.

So here is where Gigabyte kicks in, they launched a GTX 1080 under Aorus branding. You can look at AORUS as Gigabyte’s new premium brand much to what ROG is for ASUS. A product that has been totally revamped and designed all custom with a massive cooler, higher clock speeds and a backplate with a configurable RGB LED lit logo. Next to that Gigabyte now also invokes a 4 year warranty program if you register the product on their Aorus website, that is something really special to see these days. Interesting though is that this card has three DP, then three HDMI connectors and then one DVI connector, yet that's seven monitor connectors! Two of the HDMI connectors are located at the backside of the card vor VR related matters.

The board is fed by two 8-pin power connectors. The GPU is clocked at a nice 1.709 MHz with a 1.848 MHz boost at default clocks. The cooler, well lets just state that Gigabyte focused on that big-time. The GDDR5X memory has been tweaked to the new Micron ICs  running 11.008 MHz (effective data-rate).

That increases this model with 10% more memory bandwidth. And yes the GeForce GTX 1080 very much so likes more graphics memory bandwidth. The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Aorus 8G 11 Gbps has a triple-slot design with triple-fan cooling solution! Embedded as well is some funky LED lighting system, everything about this product states premium really. And yeah, we have enough to talk about and to show. Have a peek below and then dive into the review.
