A trend we noticed on computer mice lately is replacing that good old rubber cable; now implemented on the keyboard and roughly two meters is a braided cloth cable, not rubber. I'm very glad the keyboard is wired and not wireless. Wired is much more responsive, faster and less laggy than wireless of course. Especially in a hefty gaming spree these are the things that really matter.
On the top of the keyboard are programmable macro keys hidden under the function keys. Under the numeric keys you can dim or brighten up the keyboard LEDs (press function + the corresponding keys.
Underneath the F1 to F4 keys you'll have functionality like volume up/down play pause. The media control done this way feels a little so-so hidden under F-keys, I'd rather have seen scroll wheel of some kind. For these functions you do not need to install any software. The keyboard is plug and play. Once you feel fooling around with macros and profiles, that's where you'll need to install software.
Under F12 is a FUNC key (press function and F12), it activates re-assigned keys and disables the Windows key for a gaming friendly environment.
