Final Words & Conclusion

Final Words & Conclusion

When EVGA asked us to review this product at first we said no. This product is too powerful for us to be able to objectively review it. And that's the honest truth. We do not have the load equipment available to even come close towards the 1500 Watt the product delivers, or heck 1650 Watt when in OC mode.

After a while we were asked again... and again. A that point I decided to do it the way you have been able to read it. This review is more of a product showcase rather then a stress test. And under those terms I agreed to write this article. That means also for you guys this article is 'as is' -- an overview of the goodness that is this PSU and not a load test as we could barely even tickle it in terms of load.

Admittedly, this is one impressive product. The 1500 Watt and Gold rating aside, I never have seen a power supply this versatile, configurable and feature rich.

That said, it was a pleasure to test the the unit alright. It obviously had no issues whatsoever with what we threw at it, then again we reached just over 700 Watt which is not a lot for this PSU. While passing 700 Watt load we do can confirm that the power efficiency is most definitely excellent as it performed smack down where it needs to be with other Gold certified  models, while being a 1500 Watt PSU at lower power consumption you'd expect lightly worse efficiency, but that was not the case and makes the AX1200i very commendable.

At a price of 449 USD the product pricing is massively expensive though, but realistically you do get what you pay for, an fascinating nearly evil PSU with good high efficiency levels, great looks, great connectivity and of course software monitoring and configuring.

And that's where we need to start talking about features. The product comes with frickin jumpers which you can use to assign voltage rails. Then there's the software suite that allows you to monitor a plethora of functions like input/output voltage and power, efficiency and the ability to configure a normal or multi rails. On that topic, if you only have one graphics card you might want to use a multi voltage rails as otherwise all that power on one rails and one graphics card... might even be too powerful. If you plan to overclock massively and use multiple graphics cards then yes... choose the single voltage rail.

Aesthetics then, the NEX 1500 SuperNova Classified looks great with its dark and red logo design. A word of advice however has to be the concern of length, this puppy is 20 CM deep, so make sure you have the right chassis for that.

The cables are individually sleeved for you in a dark black coating with red coating for the graphics cards -- awesome. Good to see is that the connectors themselves are all black as well. The added benefit obviously is very clean looking wiring for that ultimate finish.

Modular designs are the way to go. You use what you need in terms of wiring, keeping the innards clean and tidy, plain and simple. And overall the PSU is a great looking PSU, slightly longer than your typical ATX sized PSU though. Now combined with the Gold factor -- the certified model at 90% efficiency at 50% load -- the PSU seems to be a winner. Our tests show that the PSU positions itself where it needs to be be. However... 50% load means 750 Watt :) Dive under or above it and your efficiency will drop a little.

But lets round things up. The PSU is very efficient, has good looks, is modular, is stable, comes with individually sleeved cabling. Noise wise you can hear the fan a little and power down we did hear some remote coil noises.

The one thing that could hold you back is the pricing. But keep in mind that this is the Ferrari amongst the power supplies out there. To ease the pain a little EVGA will grant you guys a 10 year warranty that you receive (you must register within 30 days after purchase though). There's very little else to say other than confirming that the EVGA NEX 1500 Supernova Classified is simply a downright kick'ass product that will be recommended by many.

From A to Z the product oozes extreme and it is within that segment that people will find this unit appealing. The guys with SR2 motherboards, the guys that overclock sub-zero, the guys that run 2, 3 heck even 4 graphics cards. We honestly can't see anyone buying this product unless you fall within that category really. Very sexy, very very very expensive, very feature rich. It's Niche for those that need or want it.
