Introduction

EVGA NEX 1500 Classified power supply - the most beefy PSU evah ?

We all know it. The sheer amount of PSUs out on the market are plentiful and diverse. EVGA jumped that bandwagon as well as they have introduced a 1500 Watt (yes -- you read that right) power supply. The thing is sincerely intriguing not only in it's power design, but also features.

See, not only does the PSU come designed, high-power output with GOLD certification and individually sleeved cables based product. There's all sorts of weird stuff goin on. For example you'll stumble into small jumpers allowing you to switch your voltage rails. Yep -- You can configure the multi/single mode via software or via dip switches on back.

The NEX 1500 series are also about being quiet and efficient. The PSU as tested today carries a Gold certification. Bronze, Silver but really Gold or Platinum is what you want, however the upper stack in hardware is expensive.

That means that this 1500 Watt  90% efficient at 50% load. Efficiency matters; years ago PSUs were as low as 70% efficient, meaning that 30% of the used power simply vanishes, whilst you are paying for it on that electricity bill. If your components eat away 500W then with that 70% efficient product you'd actually use 650W. With today's EVGA NEX 1500PSU you'd be using 540W.

What you'll notice about the PSU itself is that is is 100% modular, for most of you with a side panel window in their chassis a must really as you'll want modular cables. Even the ATX power connector for the motherboard can be removed. The new PSU also improved on the audibility front, if your PC is in idle and pretty much doing silent.

As stated the 1500W PSU is massive in performance and you can configure the voltage rails. If you want a single voltage rail for the multiple graphics cards, then you can configure that with DIP switches. It has more features though. The PSu comes with SuperNOVA, a power supply control and monitoring software. If you are on 230VAC input -- then an Overclock mode allows PSU to deliver up to 1650W.

All in all we have plenty to show you and test. Mind you that being the in this range you'll get an added benefit as well, the EVGA SuperNOVA NEX1500 Classified PSU is backed by an excellent 10-year warranty. Oh and hey, it can be overclocked as well!

But have a peek at the product and then let's head onwards into the review. Next page please.
