Final Words & Conclusion

The Verdict

As stated in our introduction, our testing method is trivial at best and can be considered non-representative. To test modern age power supplies you need real expensive load equipment and monitoring devices easily worth thousands and thousands of dollars. We do not have it at hand and therefore test the real-world way. We chuck the PC full with hardware and stress it. During stress we monitor the several voltage rails and look for fluctuations. Now, in the past we have seen some PSUs show a little bit of an offset here and there, this however was not the case with the Enermax Enermax Modu87 Plus 600W we tested.

600 Watts is something we can pretty easily throw at a PSU, which we did. And the 600W Enermax Modu87 Plus was just not bothered by it. We did not spot any voltage fluctuations or instability. At best, when highly stressed the PSU got slightly lukewarm, but that was the only physical oddity we could see, feel or measure. I know quality when I see and test it, and the Enermax Modu87 Plus delivers in the highest rankings without any doubt in my mind.

Efficiency then. During our test session we compared a little to similar PSUs we tested with a similar setup and the numbers do not lie, the Enermax Modu87 Plus series is very power efficient. Enermax definitely took it up a notch delivering give or take 90% efficiency in most scenarios, and that's something really recommendable. Remember, you are not only a little greener with a highly efficient PSU, you will also save money on your power bill in the long term. Next to that, to achieve such a high efficiency as a manufacturer you can only use the very best components, and as such there's no doubt in my mind that the Enermax Modu87 Plus series will last you a very long time. Enermax knows this, and therefore gives the Modu87 Plus series an extended warranty of 5 years, which is really nice.

The modular design works out great as well, you'll have plenty of connectors for all kinds of compatibility and peripheral requirements, the PSU is loaded with safety features and then, last but not least, I just have to mention the fan. It's nearly a little silly to specifically mention a fan, bit I was impressed as it's such a high-performing fan, you can literally feel the airflow... but the magnetic design of the 'Twister' fan makes it just so incredibly quiet. See, I know that most HTPC buffs for example opt for a fanless PSU, well guys, no need for that anymore... this is the next best thing.besthardwareaward4.jpg

So yes, need I say more? Enermax did it again. An extra pinch of innovation brought their already excellent PSU line a little further into the stratosphere. The one thing that might be considered downbeat could be price though. This 600W model will set you back 159 USD, the 700W model costs just over 200 USD. That's certainly steep, but as I always say, a good PSU is a worthwhile investment. It lasts you many years, is the blood of your PC and with the efficiency level this PSU offers... it will earn itself back over time.

We are handing out our best hardware award, very seldom granted to any product. Heck, it's well deserved, what a great PSU.
