The software suite

The interesting thing about the controller module as that it is WIFI based. You need to control it with your smartphone (Apple/Android) and an APP. At the Play store (Android) just seek for 'deepcool' and you'll notice an app called "MF Control". You start it, connect it to your 2.4 GHz WIFI connection (ours did not accept 5G BTW), and it will see one or more controllers. You then assign it to your network and the setup is finished.

There are a few concerns with the APP, it is requesting permission like crazy, including your location, contacts list, readability of your SMS, media files and device ID and inbound calls. I certainly hope this will be restricted to a final version, as these permission requirements alone will certainly hurt Deepcool sales.

Once installed though you can remotely access your fan/LED controller. There are three fan preset modes from silent to powerful. What's nice to see is that you may configure a fan profile yourself, you could fix the fans at 500 RPM for example.

Obviously, the LED lighting modes are listed here as well, you can go static with one color, fade, flash, neon mode, multicolor flowing and you get a meteor mode. The last three look great as the strips on the fans each can be lit with some pretty spectacular effects.

Concluding

When configured at just the right RPM level, these fans are totally silent whilst offering proper airflow. The fans are unique in design, it might not be for everybody and sure, when exposes on the outside, you better watch your fingers ;)

The MF120 Smart Fan Set sells at a suggested retail price of roughly $100. Converted including VAT, that is about 89 euros. That includes the WIFI enabled controller, I feel that is a pretty good deal. The advantage of the included controller is that you only need one wire towards the fan for power, rpm and led control. That offers fairly clean looks alright. The RGB solution is pretty amazing really, however that is a personal preference, and opinions about anything RGB these days do vary. However if implemented properly, the addition of RGB can work out nicely. The controller is base on its own eco-system, meaning colors/animations will be based on what you define through the smartphone app. While that is great, I guess some would have preferred an RGB motherboard link-up with say ASUS SYNC or MSI Mystic light to get all components of your PC SYNC up properly. We’re currently working on a DeepCool chassis review (Quadstellar) and will likely include them in there for a bit more bling and overview. That's it for this quick write-up. We'll follow up soon.

As mentioned, this was not a review, but simply a quick overview.
