Corsair Vengeance 2000 headset

The Vengeance 2000 comes with beefy 50mm drivers which deliver a lot more volume with very little distortion really. In comparison, the Sennheiser HD800 has 56mm drivers and a 40mm voice coil (because the technology is rather different, it's hard to call Sennheiser drivers, 'drivers'), so the Vengeance 1500 and now 2000 are getting up there.

Unfortunately the Vengeance 2000 is not held together with screws like the HS1 was. Normally we would remove the earpad but it felt like we would have to break them to get inside the earcups. So we'll leave that as is.

The boom microphone thankfully rotates away, but isnt adjustable other than that. It is noise-cancelling, and well talk to it and about that as well later on.

The earcups on the 2000 are big and padded similar to the 1500 with quite a bit of adjustment for comfort.

Overall very comfortable but the Vengeance 2000 is a fairly tight fit. Despite being sealed-back headphones, it doesnt offer very much attenuation of external noise like the ASUS Vulcan ANC does, but it does offer more than open-back headphones like the AKG K701 or Grado. Oh and they'll keep your ears nice and warm during those cold winters :)

The headband on the 2000 is similar to the 1500 which is similar to the HS1, big and padded, but with little extra touches like the blue thread sewing. The ear cups can be rotated completely so they'll adjust themselves perfectly to the shape of your head.

Typically we do have a slight aversion to the USB chips in headsets. We feel they hurt sound more than they should, but Corsair knows this and is using higher quality USB chips in their headsets. The Vengeance 2000 headset uses, we assume, the C-Media CM6302.

If it is used then that is good, the C-Media CM6302 is a compelling audio chip, up to 16-bit, in 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz sample rates, DAC for output, and 16-bit, 44.1 KHz and 48 KHz ADC (analog-to-digital conversion) for the microphone.

The chip also integrates a DSP that enables Xear 3D and Dolby Digital technologies. While Xear 3D is supported, Dolby Digital isn't. It might be a licensing issue that is related to costs.

Overall the Vengeance 2000 is very stylish, simple, even elegant in a minimalist sort of way. Here we see the USB cable hooked in charging the headset. To the top left is the on/off switch with below it a blue LED that will emit light when powered on. The metal round knob will allow you to control volume. But lets dig a little deeper into the drivers and sound. Next page please!
