Meet the Corsair Hydro Series H50

On the next few pages we'll show you some photos. The images were taken at a high resolution and then cropped and scaled down. The camera used was a Canon 450D 12 MegaPixel.

So the kit we received is a bit of an early review sample, hence the lack of packaging we always show. Obviously the final product will have proper box and packaging. We stumble into the several components. We'll run through them one by one. Mind you that for starters, the kit is really targeted at Intel processors. You'll receive backplates for Socket LGA775 (Core 2 series) and Socket 1366 (Core i7). However, should you want to use it on an AMD based socket (AM2/AM3), you can request a bracket from Corsair upon request under the product code CWCH50AMDBRKT, and yes... there will be a small charge for that (a few dollars).

The plan is to include the AMD bracket in the bundle going forward, though Corsair doesn't know when this will happen precisely just yet.

Some of the more prominent features:

  • Pre-filled, closed-loop system is easy to install
  • Copper CPU cooling plate for maximum cooling performance
  • Integrated pump and reservoir is sealed for zero maintenance and improved leakage protection
  • 120mm radiator for fast heat dispersion
  • High-efficiency, low-noise 120mm fan for drawing cool air across the radiator
  • Two-year warranty

Above you can see the components used, your typical ABC when it comes to liquid cooling can be found components wise. We have the radiator, the ventilator (nice and quiet btw), tubing and then the CPU cooling block and pump are merged together.

Please be aware of the fact that if you upgrade your PC, your mainboard needs to be removed from the chassis. The H50 is mounted to a back plate, which as you can understand is secured at the rear side of your motherboard. You'll receive brackets for Socket LGA 775 and 1366 (Core 2 and Core i7 series). There's no news on Core i5 compatibility just yet. Again AMD Socket AM2 or AM3 users can request and purchase a retention bracket at Corsair.

Here we see the radiator. It's roughly 120mm fan size and relatively small. Initially we were a little worried about its cooling ability due to its sheer size, bur as our tests will show, the unit can definitely handle some heat. BTW I nearly forgot, Corsair is evangelizing right now that the H50 cooling system will be available with an MSRP somewhere around the $75~$80 mark which is 60-65 EUR.
