Perceptive Usage

We've been telling this over and over again, testing a mouse is a subjective matter. Each person has different hands, different preferences and a different usage. So I've been using the mouse for a couple of days now just to check out how well I like it in gaming and normal desktop usage. Personally I'm still using the good old Microsoft Trackball Explorer series. So darn precision... why are good trackballs not made anymore anyhow?

Overall we think the Inferno is a good mouse though. It's aesthetically pleasing, sits reasonably well in the hand. I say reasonable because I realized that continuously I was using merely my fingertips rather then having the entire mouse in my hand. Reasoning here is that with the mouse completely in my hand I often had to reposition my fingers to align with the buttons. Somehow that didn't feel 100% right.

If you feel the need for programmability, you can do so with the mouse application software. The sky is the limit, and quite honestly we feel nearly too much can be configured -- for generic users the interface can be really confusing with all the presets and variables. The die-hards however will love this.

Playing games then. The mouse is responsive, very responsive in Battlefield Bad Company 2, you easily navigate through everything in the field. Once you reach your enemy and get into a shootout you'll want to cycle to a lower DPI level so you can aim a little more accurately. Selection of the DPI works reasonable at best as the up and down buttons are located too close to each other.

Lowering DPI all the way to 500 DPI helps you precisely snipe really well, you simply toggle down to the lowest DPI settings (if you prefer) and easily snipe with the mouse again -- success. The mouse works well in games where you need to make fast decisions and move around quickly.

The programmability of the mouse is nice as well; say you play a shooter where you want to swap weapons quickly, with the help of a self created profile you can assign that function to one of the buttons, game onwards much more quickly as that macro reacts much faster than you my friend, all options though.

The response time and accuracy feel good. The dual laser optical engine combines high precision movement, making the mouse easier to move quickly and repeatedly. I did on occasion had to try a function two times.

Now I'm not a professional gamer and will not pretend to be one in this review either, but with all the gadgets and fine tuned features I'd say this mouse makes a great one alright.

For generic desktop usage the mouse is easy to use, navigate and work with. Not a problem. The mouse itself is just on par with everything. Pretty much all buttons are positioned just right and all macro's are active properly and functional after selecting them. Polling and tracking wise the mouse feels good, as you can expect from a  USB poll rate of 1000 Hz and a response time of 1 ms for this mouse.
