If you look at the PCI-Express connectors a little closer you'll notice a bumpy something under that tape. It's fused protection. You don't fry your components if for whatever reason that rails should overvolt, nope you'll fry the protection in the cable first. According to the manual this protection also brings another advantage, 50% less ripple noise.

The new 24 PIN ATX connector is becoming more and more standard. Should you have an older mainboard, a 20-pin adapter is also supplied, so no worries there. Also notice the included caps. You can place them on the remaining connectors.
