Introduction

With the soundcard heavyweights consistently putting out higher quality cards and surpassing their previous products, the PC audio enthusiast may find a serious bottleneck in their systems.

This shortcoming is of course the common "PC" type speaker.  With the new flagship cards such as the Essence series, CL Titanium HD and the Auzentech offerings, putting out great sound, you also need great playback equipment for excellent playback quality.  Your speakers are just as important as your sound source and as the saying goes; your chain is only as strong as your weakest link.

To get started, we need to leave most PC speakers behind and move to components meant for home theater or "home stereo" use.  Given the limited space on many PC desks, we find a set of bookshelf speakers and a quality desktop amplifier to be the perfect combination between size and power.

We have been using bookshelf speakers for a long time in the Guru3D Audio Lab to test newer audio gear and ensure we are hearing great sound from the tested products. Cue snare drum:

Today in the Guru3D Audio Lab we have a new set of AXIOM M2 v3 bookshelf speakers to run through our lab.  So, let's get to the good stuff shall we?
