ASUS Xonar Phoebus

Introduction

Yes, that’s right it is about that time again.

The Xonar Sound machine is revving into high gear and releasing another offering to the PC audio community.  Since their entry into the PC audio world the Xonar brand has been pulling no punches and for the past while ASUS has been taking on the higher end market segments. With the release of the Essence series of audio cards and finally with the flagship Essence One external DAC, they secured their place in the PC audio world.  They proved once and for all they were a serious contender in the world of high fidelity audio sources.

With that in mind, it is excellent to see this design muscle put into a new product aimed at a different market segment, namely the gamer segment.  Gamers are not quite as strict as the audiophile market place, we would still suggest they like to have great sound, after all a great game is just that much better with high quality surround sound or headphone based audio immersing you into the action.

We find in the Guru3D audio forums that more and more of our contributors are sporting high end full home theater audio systems boasting some serious audio reproduction.  Considering that newer game cards offer advanced technologies from companies that specialize in HT audio such as Dolby, DTS and modern games are multi-million dollar AV productions, the use of higher end setups makes perfect sense. So when we here about companies developing new audio sources, boasting new home theater technology, we tend to get a bit excited in the audio lab to hear what this new product has to offer.

So without further delay, we have a brand spanking new Phoebus 7.1 bundle in the Guru3D Audio Lab.  Let’s pull this new audio card out and check it out.  Let’s go…

ASUS Xonar Essence ST Sneak Preview | test
The PC audio market has been churning out some great new high fidelity soundcards lately. A good example here is the recent release of the new Essence STX headphone card, which stirred up the audio community and caught the attention of people who usually look for external headphone amplifiers. Some of you may know there were rumors of ASUS expanding the Essence Line-up with possibly a PCI model. Guru3D has the prototype the engineering sample of the Essence ST in our audio lab today, and will bring you a sneak preview on it.
