Much like most R9-390X cards the card has a power consumption that lies, give or take, in the 260 Watts range. The board's overall power consumption from idle to load is okay really, roughly 10 Watts in idle and, when the monitor goes into sleep mode, just 3 Watts. And yes, it is a nice looking card alright.

ASUS applies a more closed design backplate for the 390X I do not understand why. The GPU heat will be trapped there. Back-plates do protect the PCB SMT & DIP components, make the product way more sturdy and sure, it looks much nicer. I find the backplate design very average, more venting meshes are needed.

You will need to hook the 390X card up to your power supply with one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe PEG connector. We recommend a 550~600W power supply to start with, with one card of course.

There's no dual BIOS selection anymore though, on the last-gen 290 series reference cards you had the choice for a performance and silent mode. I guess this card maxes out performance and remains silent anyway. A terrific looking card though.
