Next up, the photo-shoot. This is the part where we move away from the technical stuff for a minute and move on to the product photo-shoot followed by initial tests on heat, power consumption and noise levels.
Boxing and packaging first. The card comes in a giant box alright. Well packaged, no real chance of damage during transport.
We'll start off with the packaging and bundle, the ASUS bundle is so-so. No added free software, games or anything. You get the product and application software.
- One Radeon HD 5870 Matrix Platinum
- Crossfire bridge x 1
- Manual
- Driver CD
- 4-pin Molex to 6-pin PEG power connector converters x 2
- DVI and mini HDMI adapter
- ROG case badge
As you can see, here we have the Radeon HD 5870 as supplied by ASUS. It has good looks, kind of serious and it definitely draws attention alright. Obviously you can spot a ROG logo on it as well.
Nice dark PCB, cooling performance is really good, not too noisy as our tests will later on show. Oh and see that Safe Mode button? Press it and obviously the card falls back to failsafe clock speed and voltage settings.
